MASSIVE CAST SHAKE-UP! 3 characters leave in August – General Hospital Cast 2026

These days, it seems like General Hospital is undergoing a cast change every five minutes.

If Nathan Dean isn’t returning (and then abruptly leaving) as Ethan, we’re hearing that Chris L. McKenna is being killed off as Jack, or we’re being introduced to one newcomer (Hudson) after another (Tristan). It is, in a word, dizzying. (Catch up via our photo gallery.)

But there’s at least one cast change that viewers don’t have to worry about: Laura Wright is sticking around as Carly. The Emmy winner, who became the show’s fourth Carly in 2005, happily tweeted — too late to make this week’s ICYMI news roundup — “I’m not going anywhere.” As a matter of fact, she “just signed a new contract!”

Her Daytime Roots Run Deep

Wright was already a daytime vet when she joined the cast. She’d helped transition Loving into The City and rocked Guiding Light as Reva’s sister, stripper-turned-princess Cassie.

Nevertheless, when Soaps.com spoke with the actress, she admitted that in the beginning, “I was a bit stressed at wanting to make sure I made the fans happy and the producers happy and the writers happy.

And then finally one day the producer said, ‘You can stop walking on the studio floor with all the expectations of everybody else. She’s your character.'”

Her Promise to You

That, Carly was, and that, Carly is. At this point, you’d be hard-pressed to say that Wright isn’t the definitive Carly — and the audience is quick to say so.

“There are no fans like daytime fans,” she tells Soaps.com. “It is a family. We’re in their living rooms five days a week. They’re loyal, they show up, especially the people that come [to get-togethers] in groups.

“I’ve been at fan events where there’s a mom, a grandmom and the granddaughter, and they all watch together now,” she continues.

“And that’s just what daytime does. And I am so grateful for anyone that is moved by what I do and that continues to follow what I do. You keep watching, and I’ll keep showing up!”
