Days of Our Lives: Suzanne Rogers Returns to Salem After Emotional Health Battle
Days of Our Lives fans have a special reason to celebrate as Suzanne Rogers prepares to return to Salem as beloved matriarch Maggie Horton.
After stepping away from the spotlight during a difficult period in her personal life, the longtime daytime star is once again appearing on the Peacock drama, marking an emotional homecoming for one of Salem’s most enduring characters.
Rogers has portrayed Maggie since 1973, making her one of the most recognizable faces in daytime television.

Over more than five decades, Maggie has evolved from a young woman into a respected matriarch, wife, mother, grandmother and trusted confidante to generations of Salem residents.
Her recent absence carried particular emotional weight. In October 2025, Rogers revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer.
Just one month later, she shared the encouraging news that she was in remission. During her recovery, Days of Our Lives supported her decision to prioritize her health rather than pressure her to return.
The show explained Maggie’s absence by having her leave Salem to visit her daughter Melissa during a difficult period. Now, she is finally coming home—and she may have plenty of family problems waiting for her.
Maggie’s return is scheduled for September 1, 2026, with Julie Williams reaching out to bring her back into the Salem fold. Played by Susan Seaforth Hayes, Julie shares a decades-long friendship and family connection with Maggie, making their reunion particularly meaningful for longtime viewers.
Maggie will also have plenty to catch up on within her own family. Her daughter Sarah Horton has endured significant emotional turmoil, while granddaughter Holly Jonas has faced her own complicated circumstances.
Perhaps the biggest crisis, however, involves Maggie’s stepson, Philip Kiriakis.
Philip has reportedly fallen back into gambling, creating a serious problem for the Kiriakis family. Even more alarming, he has considered selling the Kiriakis mansion to settle a debt to EJ DiMera.
For Maggie, the prospect of losing the family home could be impossible to ignore.
The mansion represents decades of family history, wealth and tradition, and Maggie’s connection to the Kiriakis family runs deep through her marriage to the late Victor Kiriakis.
If Philip moves forward with plans to sell the property, Maggie may be forced to intervene before another piece of the family legacy disappears.
Her return could also put Maggie in the middle of conflicts involving the Kiriakises and DiMeras, two of Salem’s most powerful families.
There is an added layer of emotion surrounding Rogers’ comeback because Days of Our Lives films episodes months in advance.
Her return was filmed in November 2025, shortly after she announced that she was in remission, meaning viewers are only now seeing the long-awaited comeback play out onscreen.
For fans who have followed Rogers throughout her remarkable career, Maggie’s return represents more than another storyline.
It is a celebration of an actress who has remained a cornerstone of daytime television for more than 50 years.
Now Maggie is home, and Salem needs her. With Philip’s gambling problems, the Kiriakis legacy potentially at risk, Sarah and Holly facing their own struggles, and Julie calling her back into action, Maggie Horton may have very little time to rest.
