Todd and Julie Chrisley Reveal How Their 30-Year Marriage Changed After Prison
Their relationship was “so heavy for literally, like, 10 years or more leading up to us going away,” Julie said on her daughter’s podcast

It’s been over a year since Todd and Julie Chrisley were pardoned by President Donald Trump and released from prison.
In that time, the pair — who rose to fame on Chrisley Knows Best and are parents to Chase, Savannah and Grayson, as well as their adopted granddaughter Chloe — have seen their relationship evolve. From Todd’s point of view, their marriage is “funnier” now than it used to be.
“I think there’s more humor involved in it,” Todd, 57, said on the July 7 episode of Savannah’s podcast, Unlocked.
“It was so heavy for literally, like, 10 years or more leading up to us going away,” Julie, 53, said. “Because we dealt with it every day, it was something new… I think there’s just a lightness.”
Todd agreed that there’s now a “lightness” to their marriage, as he shared how his overall view of their relationship has shifted. “I always viewed my marriage as not just me and your mom, but all of our kids,” he told Savannah. “And I think for the first time in my life, I view our marriage as singular, just me and her.”
Previously, Julie added, the couple “meshed marriage and family, the lines got very blurred.”
“And I think for now, at this point in my life, I’m probably more clear on what our marriage is and what it looks like and what it needs to be — from my perspective,” Todd added. “This is the person that I’m going to die with, this is the person that I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.”

Todd and Julie were both indicted by a federal grand jury for tax evasion in 2019, found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion in 2022, and sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison later that year. Both of their sentences were later reduced.
They reported to prison in January 2023 — Todd to the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola and Julie to the Federal Correctional Institution and Federal Prison Camp Marianna — and had not seen each other in over two years when they were pardoned.

During their time in prison, the couple, who wed in 1996, had very limited communication.
“We were able to email, but the email was very sporadic and it would take, sometimes two, three days for me to get an email or him to get an email,” Julie said on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine podcast in October. “So we did not speak.”
“He’s my person. Not having your person there when you’re having a bad day, when you’re having a good day, when, you know, a birthday comes or a holiday. Those are big deals at our house. They’ve always been. So that was the hardest part for me,” Julie said of her husband.
