We’re not entirely sure how they did it on Days of Our Lives, but Lexie and Kristen managed to pull off their plan and switch places. (Seriously.
How did Lexie, who can barely stand up and has no strength, break open the lock on Kristen’s crate?) Kristen vanished without a trace, but Lexie wasn’t quite so lucky. She won’t get to hide out on the DiMera island until she dies, as EJ found her and brought her back home.
Kristen is… somewhere out there, but it doesn’t seem like she’ll be sticking around for long.
For one thing, Susan’s back in town, which is usually a surefire indication that Kristen’s going to vanish for a bit. The two rarely spend time in Salem at the same time. (Since, you know, Stacy Haiduk plays both characters!)
But for another, Kristen’s just plain out of options. She’s gone from a vindictive, resourceful plotting scion of Stefano, to a heartbroken mother who’s running scared.
“It’s kind of interesting for me to go into these other places,” Haiduk shared with Soaps. Kristen’s done some horrible things, but trying to kill her own nephew was dark. “I know the DiMeras usually would never go after any of the children,” she added, “but here we are.”

Losing Rachel, even temporarily, was so heartbreaking for Kristen, that she crossed a giant red line. She went after Johnny and, while she was, fortunately, unsuccessful in killing him, it’s something that EJ doesn’t seem willing to forgive — even if he insists he won’t cross the same line!
Kristen’s definitely been “a bit more freaked out as to what’s going to happen,” Haiduk explained. First, she was worried about Rachel, and now she’s just trying to survive. There’s no more fighting back. No more trying to one-up EJ. She just needs to leave town and hide from her brother.
And that’s taken Haiduk to “places as an actress that are so much fun to go to, although you get exhausted. I remember last year going through all this, and it was just every day, the emotion and where to go on the journey. I love her strength, but she is vulnerable right now, and her daughter is the one thing that makes her vulnerable.”
Whether or not that comes back to bite her remains to be seen. Because she may have escaped the shipping container, but she hasn’t left Salem yet. We know from spoilers that Kristen’s going to pay Rachel a visit before vanishing. And hopefully it’s one she can make without being caught. (If the preview video is any indication, she’ll at least be in disguise!)
If she can visit Rachel and disappear into the night, she could make it back someday when EJ gets his comeuppance and is no longer a threat. If that happens, Kristen’s exit could be short-term, at least until we run through Haiduk’s time filming at Days of Our Lives in a few months. But if she’s caught again and shipped off to the DiMera island, she could be gone for a very long time.
Whichever way it plays out, it does seem that Kristen’s clock, as EJ has been warning, has just about run down.
